turchese

turchese is a short film, 8'47'', 1080p, stereo format.

using irony and a pungent editing (which tries to replicate the style of half a century ago) but also queer, "turchese" tells of finding harmony, even between people with opposing beliefs, with the idea that two people with contrasting ideas can potentially be the result of different points of view and therefore coexist. following such a divisive period from the point of view of positions, especially online, it was important for me to create a universe where can find harmony even within opposing ideas (without necessarily supporting them).

the video was born during a difficult situation between my mother and i during the pandemic. this division then created strong scars in our relationship. to the point that it was almost impossible for us to communicate peacefully. things changed when we decided to allow ourselves to have different points of view, accepting (at first hard) that the other could have radically opposite points of view.

"turchese" is a celebration of the fact that it is possible again for both of us to work together (my mother is a clown) and tells of this union. in the video, gal and his animal friend (tobias) do not seem to find a solution, until the mother figure introduces turquoise: a solution that allows both of them to have a region and stop the quarrel. the solution is not really favourable for the two, ironically about the bitterness of this compromise: the extreme ideas due to the fear of the pandemic still exist, but now they are accepted, because they are justified by an uncertain and frightening global context. turchese wants to tell our re-union through the media style that united us: the media of this era and style, such as the "muppet show", "the letter people", as well as "l’albero azzurro" and the ticinese "colazione con peo".

the conflict based on the difference in color perception arose from two aspects: color is a tool that i often use within my art, and its perceptual difference is closely linked to cultural differences (e.g. in josserand et al., 2021) and therefore that they do not have a right answer within them or not.

turchese features gal (as gal), orit guttman (as the mother), and gaelle guidotti (puppeteering tobia).

it was made with the help of stefano cascili at the camera and color correction and the instrumental was made by renzo sartori.

creation, script, direction, music, video and sound editing, postproduction by gal.
